Well…the book showed Chester’s “brain” to me that means that this Chester has either had his reset button hit, or his brain isn’t the same brain that was with the Wife before.
He doesn’t have his heart anymore. He loved her because of that and fell in love with her because of the picture of them two. Without it he’s just a walking dildo.
